Engineering Buyer

Role Objectives:

To work with the procurement team and the engineering team to ensure efficient purchasing of both engineering stock supplies and engineering project items.  Developing strong working relationships across both functions ensuring that engineering items are procured in a cost effective and timely manner.

Responsibilities:

Ensure that all Environment, Health & Safety requirements are met including (but not limited to); workplace organisation, work instructions, risk assessments, permit issuing and control, COSHH assessments, housekeeping standards, and operating within the environmental permit.

Meet site regulatory and customer quality requirements relating to ISO9001, ISO14001 and cGMP as well as the requirements of cross contamination prevention

To buy products and services in line with the Site purchasing strategy, on time and within budget

Liaise closely with the Engineering team to ensure that critical engineering items are set and maintained at the appropriate level

Work closely with the Engineering Stores Supervisor to ensure the Engineering Stores are adequately stocked with the right equipment to support operational requirements

Oversee and maintain the best source of supply for both existing and new supply with a view to streamlining and increasing quality, always aiming for best value.

Provide timely and accurate information to the engineering group on procurement activities including quotation preparation, expediting, tendering etc                

Ensure adequate control all engineering materials to the point of issue     

Placement of purchase orders in line with company requirements

Expediting of sub contract and purchase orders

Undertake any other duties of which the responsibility, skill and experience required fall within a post holder’s expected capability and commensurate with the post holder’s position in the organisation      

Key Performance Indicators:

Compliance vs authorities manual (i.e. x3 quotes, tenders for contracts > £10k etc)                     

Maintenance of critical spares          

Turnaround time for quotation requests

Core Skills/Competencies:

Proven track record within Engineering Procurement. 

Ideally from an Engineering background with a broad appreciation of the equipment purchased and its use within the plant

Able to read and understand engineering drawings

Strong working knowledge of Excel

Education/Qualification Required

Ideally degree educated and a Chartered member of the Institute of Purchasing & Supply
